Anna Maria Antoinette D’Addario is an Italian-Australian photographic artist, writer and book maker exploring forms of storytelling combining traditional documentary modes with photographic art practice.
Her work revolves around the investigation and resurrection of memory and our emotional connection to place.
Anna has received various nominations and awards for her work, most recently as the recipient of the 2019 Photolux Photoboox Award for her artist’s book project, Farewell Angelina, leading to the publication of her second bookwork, Deep in their Roots, All Flowers Keep the Light with Italian publisher ceiba Editions.
Anna is dedicated to the expression of social, environmental and humanitarian issues.
She holds a MFA in Fine Art, Sydney College of the Arts, and is currently undertaking a PhD Candidature at Monash University in Fine Art.

As an artist living and practicing in Australia, Anna acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of Country and the traditional custodians of the lands where she lives, learns and works. She recognises that sovereignty was never ceded.
Exhibiting regularly, her work is part of various private and public collections such as the National Library of Australia, the State Libraries of NSW and Queensland, Piccolomini Library Siena, Italy, Rome National Central Library, Italy (Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma) and Florence National Central Library, Italy (Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze). She is a regular contributor to The New York Times and her work has been produced broadly in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, Vogue Italia, Internazionale, The Sydney Morning Herald, Il Sole 24 Ore, Vogue UK amongst others. She is a member of Women Photograph and part of their database.
A MFA Graduate from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, Anna also works as an educator participating in programs at various academic institutions and art based organisations.
Over the past years she has been committed to public arts projects and to the support of practitioners in the field. In 2017 Anna co-founded the Australian collective Lumina. She has acted as a curator, photo editor and deputy director of the Sydney based Reportage Festival together with photographer Stephen Dupont. In 2013 and 2014 she curated and produced numerous exhibitions, events and educational workshops for Reportage. The 2013 Reportage Festival was the largest edition of the event to date prompting engagement and discussion in the community. Alongside this she has contributed written content, co-edited diverse publications and continues to work as a photo editor and curator for projects and specific practitioners; collaborating with a range of documentary photographers.
“She’s conceptual. She’s a concept lover, and is dynamic enough to create them, to open doors, to build a soulful bridge for the momentous forms in which vulnerability can manifest itself. That’s her stage, to listen to her ghosts, her afflictions, the fear and the freedom and the shadows trapping all of us. For some… the dreams, the nightmares, the transcendent experiences. It takes one moment, when solitude and loneliness come together, when the human and the natural world are at one... that’s where she takes me. She has a romantic, beautiful and soft signature. Hand made visual poetry, while inner afflictions are radiated.”
